Here it is - the Saturday after Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a grand time on Thursday and you are still able to find a few leftovers of turkey and dressing in your refrigerator - they are always the best!

This particular day will be spent taking down all the autumn decorations (including the friendly scarecrow welcoming friends to my front door and oh by the way, he did a great job this year!) and then begin the slow journey of putting up Christmas decorations and lights! I already have the Christmas candles lighted in my kitchen and dining room this morning - it smells festive!

Our Little Wooden Doll is definitely excited about the new season, too! In the next few days, we will have postings of three new outfits:
  • Noel
  • Christmas Dinner with Mr. Darcy
  • Birding Girl

They are pretty cute and definitely one of a kind! Hope you like them too!

Got The 'Catitude'?

Got The ‘Catitude'?

Our Little Wooden Doll has it in super strength! The University of Cincinnati is dear to her heart and what a football season they are having! Undefeated with only two games to go (but one of those games will be quite the challenge).

Cheer on, Little Wooden Doll! Go Bearcats Go!

Ohio State University

Ohio State University

Our Little Wooden Doll has several favorite college football teams that she follows and one of them is OSU! Except when they play University of Cincinnati!

Making the trip up north to the “horse shoe or shoe as we call it” is also fun – lots of tailgating along Woody Hayes Drive with fabulous food. Everyone is wearing the “scarlet and gray” even our Little Wooden Doll! Sometimes we even get to see Brutus strolling about before the game begins! And remember Woody’s saying: “Success – it’s what you do with what you’ve got!” Believe it!

Go Buckeyes!

What a week I have had! And because of it, life as we happily knew it, was altered greatly. Probably making this sound more dramatic and traumatic than it actually was, but a couple of broken ribs sent me into some kind of creative funk! Took a nasty fall at work and the final verdict at the ER was "you will be in pain for at least four to six weeks". Are you kidding me?Who has time for that?

Luckily, I have a great boss and so I could crawl into my office for about three or four hours a day and tackle the ubiquitous paperwork in an attempt to keep caught up. After that, it was home for the drugs!

Yesterday I finally sat down and looked at my Little Wooden Dolls - they all stared back at me accusingly as so to say "where have you been?" Even Madison, my sweet little favorite, looked aghast at my neglect of them.

And so on this sunny November day, I went to task and worked on the fashions (some I have been working on, but haven't finished and some that are brand new for the Christmas season). Thinking also of something beautifully blue for Hanuka and something in earthy tones for Kwanzaa. But this morning, it was all about sports uniform. Sometime later today, we will post my Ohio State University's outfit - a little cheerleader of a sorts. Have a great little University of Cincinnati outfit and hope to have it posted by tomorrow or Wednesday (UC is my Alma Mater as well as still undefeated for this season!)

Going to make some Candy Cane tea and then sit down to watch and listen to Joel Osteen. I just bought his latest book and am putting faith in the theme of the first chapter -"You are closer than you think." Later.

Happy New Year's Eve-Red Glitter

Our Little Wooden Doll will be wearing this spectacular red sequin long dress with a matching cowl neckline. Going To The Tournament

Our Little Wooden Doll doesn’t want to sit on the bench today! She will give it all she has to help make her team take home the trophy. Dressed in a bright yellow top with royal blue shorts, bordered with white panels, she will be easy to spot on the field!  Click here to see more of her...Going To The Tournament

Yellow Bird

Don’t get our Little Wooden Doll confused with a sweet little yellow bird flitting through the woods on this beautiful autumn day! Borrowing a little sunshine from the universe, we find her dressed in lovely golden crushed velour with sparkly brown beads. A couple of bold feathers add a little extra merriment to her dress!  Click here to see more of her...Yellow Bird

Happy Veteran's Day

There will be a Veteran’s Day Parade today and our Little Wooden Doll will be standing on the sidelines waving her flag as the veterans march by her, dressed in her red and white short skirt (it has some red glitter on it too!) and a cropped blue top with three stars attached..

The Little Wooden Doll encourages all of us to always remember the men and women who serve in our military.  It is because of them that we have so many wonderful freedoms.  Do you have your flag on display?  Click here to see more of her...Happy Veteran's Day

What a beautiful day here in Cincinnati! It was too nice to be inside all day – this morning I took a soul-comforting walk through my neighbor. We are lucky because we have a small park nearby – Stanberry Park. Between the leaves blowing helter-skelter and the crunching sound of the leaves as I walked through them, I was autumn-heaven!

Eventually, I did the responsible thing and got to work on The Little Wooden Doll. I have a couple of orders that needed to be finished up and I also wanted to design a few new ideas, too.

I remember smiling when I watched “Miss Potter” (that would be Beatrix, of course) as her drawings came to life and sometimes became somewhat independent, much to her dismay. Not completely sure I should be owning up to this, but I am starting to relate to that same situation with the Little Wooden Doll! I am definitely talking to her and luckily, so far, she hasn’t answered me back.

So – what am I working on? A friend asked me to make a school uniform (sports) for his daughter and I am also meeting with a local shop this week to see if they will carry LWD. Keeping my fingers crossed! Also, creating a simple red/white/blue Veteran’s Day outfit; “Waiting for Mr. Darcy” is being changed to “Yellow Bird” – I have a better idea for Mr. Darcy. And I also worked on a sweet Christmas dress for LWD to wear to the symphony! I have discovered that I really like hats and or other accessories, so I need to get some creative juices flowing on that idea.

I only have one person right now that reads my blog – and I want her to know I really am trying to figure this blog-thing out!!! Love you Kelly and thanks to Curg – my webmaster who is very patient with me.

Let's Give Thanks

The Little Wooden Doll wishes all of you a Happy Thanksgiving for 2009. From her outfit, she looks as though she will be imitating the Pilgrim women from our first Thanksgiving! Her long gray skirt has a white apron attached and there is a large collar over the top of the outfit. The “pilgrim” hat is made of felt (gray and white), attached to white cardboard. And to make her look festive, we have attached a small pink bow to her top.  Click here to see more of her...Let's Give Thanks

City Lights

Our Little Wooden Doll is headed to the city with her family to see a play. Later they will all go the Hotel Netherlands for a wonderful late dinner. Her glittery short skirt with matching top is made up of silver sequins. There is silver braiding along the collar. All those sequins should reflect the “city lights” wherever she goes!  Click here to see more of her...City Lights

Have To Stay In My PJ's All Day

Our Little Wooden Doll is sick! She won’t be going to school today. Instead, she will stay warm and comfortable in her soft blue flannel PJs. They are her favorite pajamas with little multi-colored polka dots and some lace too! Lots of chicken soup for our little girl today!

Visions Of Sugar Plums Dance In Her Head

Who can sleep on Christmas Eve? Certainly not our Little Wooden doll! Although she put her pink and white flannel nightgown with little fringes of white lace on, she is too excited to close her eyes. We bet she is listening for Santa to drop down the chimney.

Wrapping Christmas Presents With Lots Of Glitter

Our Little Wooden Doll has some presents to wrap before her grandparents, aunts and uncles arrive for the Holiday dinner! Here she is wearing a set of sparkling rompers – red and green glitter candy canes on a background of blue. After everyone arrives, they will all sing a few Christmas carols before sitting down at the dining room table for the big turkey dinner! Her favorite carol is “Little Town of Bethlehem”.

Celtic Girl

My Irish grandmother always says “If you are lucky enough to be Irish, you are lucky enough!” Here is a sweet little jacket and skirt (all polka dots!) for our little girl to wear to the St. Patrick’s Day parade in the city. She will be dancing in the parade, too! Hope she remember all the steps! After the parade, our Little Wooden Doll and her family will stay in the city and have dinner at a fancy Irish restaurant.

Edward's Girl

Here is a whimsical little outfit that is purely for fun! The dress and the short cape are made of black velvet and the red collar is made of cardboard and felt. A glimmering red star bedecks the neckline. An ideal little gift for any aspiring lady vampire! Keeping my fingers crossed that Edward will notice my Little Wooden Doll!

It is going to be a gorgeous crisp Sunday in Cincinnati! And a great day for football and designing more clothing for the Little Wooden Doll.
I just posted "Edward's Girl" on Etsy and my website yesterday. Check it out. Perfect little dress for the last day of October.
Working on a couple of other ideas: "Waiting for Mr. Darcy" (a yellow crushed velour with brown jewels - want to make a headdress of some sort - need to find a perfect feather) and then "A Winter Wedding" (white velvet with jewels, veil of heavy lace and little wrist coverings of lace too. Both should be posted by Tuesday.
