Sweet Dreams Little Night Owl

Wearing her blue and pink flannel nightgown, Little Wooden Doll is ready for bed at last! What a wonderful day and glorious evening. We hope her dreams will be of some of the magnificent winged friends she has met along her path.

Merry Making At The Thomas Hardy Ball

After a hard day of birding, our Little Wooden Doll is thrilled to be going to the annual Thomas Hardy Ball! It is held every winter in honor of Hardy’s great poem – The Darkling Thrush. Our little girl is dressed warmly (all in white velvet with a bright green overlay skirt)! Holding the big velvet collar together is a small green brooch. I know you are familiar with the poem – here are the last two stanzas as a reminder.

At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited;

An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.

So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
And I was unaware

Birding Girl

Our Little Wooden Doll is all set to go birding this bright and cheerful morning! She is heading to one of our local nature centers with hopes of spotting some of her favorite friends – birds of all species!

She is wearing her khaki denim pants with a nifty little pocket. The pocket is just the right size for a stray little feather she might find along the way.

The matching khaki hat protects her from the elements and also keeps her well hidden in the brush. Since there is a little bird already resting on the brim of her hat, we know that birds need never fear her. And as you can see, her trust worthy “birding” notebook is peeking out of the tote bag as well.

Good birding, Little Wooden Doll!

Happy New Year to all! Really looking forward to 2010 and hope that it brings good things to each of us, including my Little Wooden Doll!

Working with my son today on making changes to the website and eating some good food along the way. Starting a couple of new categories: Doll of the Month and Special Collections.

The end of 2009 was sweet for me - dinner with my one sister and her husband and a late afternoon chat with my other sister. No late night for us however! And tonight my alma mater, the University of Cincinnati, plays in the Sugar Bowl. A complete day! The weather is dropping down drastically - stay warm!
